I need a new starter motor, does anyone know if the ring gear on an sd1 flywheel is the same as a range rover say.

I have a Range Rover engine and starter with an SD1 flywheel etc.

The only difference I know of it the Range Rover has the "hight torque" started (solenoid on the side) whereas the SD1 has the standard starter (solenoid on the bottom).

I've not noticed a different starter ring for this engine but would suggest you contact somebody like rimmer bros or rpi.
