I used one from a bedford rascal and I got a bracket made from Mac#1 iirc (i'm now selling it btw due to engine change )
===>piccy<===
I've just bought one of these - got it for £31:
Alternator link
I used what I was given.....I think it is a standard Ford one that came from the donor (another kit car..) that used it before me.
I like the one on the ebay link, but where is the specification....40 quid sound very good to me.....

standard pinto will fit but you will have to make a new mounting bracket
i've used an alternator from a early 1990's nissan micra. it is shorter and slightly smaller than the ford item. it also has a "V"
belt drive.
i mounted this on a home made bracket to bring it closer to the block.
i also wrapped the exhaust manifold to prevent too much heat building up near the alternator.
ditch
ps it cost me £19 delivered
