Has anyone fitted a focus ST 2.5 turbo engine to their locost/se7en?
If so, does it fit a standard bell housing pattern?
What ECU can be used on a 5 cylinder?
How much clearance would there be around the engine/turbo?
Seems like a good way to get cheap power if it would fit
James
Thought about it myself but with the current Ford line up of engines being married to Volvo nor sure about suitability.
All I know is the current Mondeo/S-Max 5 cylinder is a Volvo unit.
Would be a super choice in a 7 for sure
I was wondering if you could use a 306 GTi-6 engine in a seven. Anybody know if that has been tried?
im not going to reply here
Hmm, if it's a Volvo unit, wonder if the 340/360 or 740/760 bell housing and box would fit?
nope ,
960 straight six with manual , rare as .
damn ive posted .

I think the issue with that (having seen the same quesion raised elsewhere) is the lack of any suitable rwd peugote gearbox.
- If it has been done, it would proberbly involve some work!

Peugeot Mi16 engine has been done, but whilst a nice light engine with plenty of power, if suffers badly from oil surge problems, so dry sump is a
very good idea.
Allegedly the gearbox from a Sherpa diesel fits, but I suspect the ratios would be appalling. Bellhousings for Ford box used to be available but
manufacturer ceased a long time back.
The Focus ST is the same as the Volvo T5 engine. I'm in the process of putting one in my MK using a BMW gearbox and will post details when done.
There's past posts on here with some info and lots on Turbobricks forum.
I'm sure it would be much cheaper to source as a Volvo unit that as a Focus ST unit.
I saw a westy at stoneleigh last year with one in. Cant post apiccie cos itson my old hard drive which wont work in this pc.
Excellent news Matt, look forward to seeing the result.
Will keep building mine as a 2 litre zetec, but it's worth keeping in mind for an future upgrade
Cheers chaps
Rather than the Ford, why not the Fiat Coupe 20VT engine. It is another 5 cylinder but produces almost the same power as the ST whilst being capable of 300bhp easily and cheaply, and quite a lot more if you are prepared to spend some money. Probably a lot cheaper than a Ford engine, now available for not much over £500 for a good one.
