Silicone hoses - How close to exhaust?
Richard Quinn - 31/5/08 at 03:09 PM

The question is as above really. How close to the exhaust is safe? I know in an ideal world there should be a decent gap but, at the moment, my exhaust system and cooling system seem to be mutually exclusive. The manifold is wrapped.
Is this reflective heat shield sleeve for hoses any good?

if its a straight piece of hose near the exhaust, how about replacing it with a piece of steel/ali/copper tube?

Get some pics up with tape measurement.

I have silicone coated air inlet hoses, in one place it rests on my wrapped manifold, no problem yet. If i remember correctly the hose is good up to 300 degrees c.

I'm sure that Venair, Samco etc are rated to 180 deg C. I've got a gap of about 12mm at the closest point.
