
Right, some of you will know I have had a few teething probs with my pinto to XE conversion on the F27
After having oil pressure probs with the oil pump relief valve, I got tired of taking the valve out , polishing it up and putting it back only to have
it stick again
so I fitted a new oil pump last week , got good oil pressure now - great I thought!!
Went to work in it today - after 15- 20 mins , when I lightly braked the revs dropped and the oil pressure dropped and it stalled, now I thought
it might be a lose HT lead, as it did this before, but the leads seemed all ok??
The car re-started after a a few secs, seemed to run a bit rough, lots of revs needed to keep it going til I crawled into the works car park,
any ideas what could cause it?
It's ruining my confidence in the car ,
any checks I can do to the electrical circuit??
new coil?

The dizzy is off a mk2 cav, on twin 45 webers.
any sensible advice greatly appreciated!!!
What was it like after the engine had cooled down?
all seemed normal again , started up first time, good oil pressure, took a shorter route back home!!!
forgot to mention before the oil pressure would rise as I accelerated and the water temp was creepimg up too??? before it conked out!
If I remember rightly these engines sometimes suffered from crank sensor issues. I haven't worked on Vauxhalls now for about 4-5 years so
don't quote me.
Are you still using the original ecu and is there any way you could plug a Tech II (Vauxhall's diag machine) into it?
no ecu, no crank sensor,
just replaced the coil to dizzy ht lead, will see of that makes a difference!
may try swapping the bosch ignition module too.

Oil pressure will clearly rise/fall with the revs, so I wouldn't worry about that.
If you're not runnng an oil cooler then expect to see only about 1 bar at idle when the engine's hot, at anything over idle you should see 4
bar even with hot/thin oil. Oil cooler will help maintain about an extra half bar of pressure.
I'm guessing not, but are you running a brake servo? If you are then check for vacuum leaks as that'll cause you're stalling issue on
braking.
The webbers clearly won't be as good at catching a closed throttle as EFI would be, so you'll need to make sure they are balanced, jetted
etc perfectly. Even with the standard ICV the XE/LET was a bit of a nightmare as soon as the ICV started getting gunked up.
Also worth checking your tank pickup in case under braking you're not getting fuel into the carbs.
Do you have a rev counter fitted? It may be that the actual rpm its running at idle isn't what you think (ie. lower) so you're keeping the
revs up may just be keeping them to ~900 which seems high in comparison. Anything sub 800rpm with hot oil would struggle to give 1bar oil pressure.
Low oil pressure would also mean your lifters aren't pressurised properly leading to rough running, getting better with increased oil
pressure.
You got a vacuum advance on the dizzy? If so check for leaks.
Was the curve on the dizzy modified HH? Worth checking the dizzy hasn't turned on the head and therefore timing is off.
