hey guys, just aquired a second hand accusump off a mate, and would like to here from anyone who has fitted one in a toyota 4age. where is the best place to tap into? was thinking of the oil pump housing? i have got the manual tap. also does it matter if you dont turn the accusump off everytime you turn off the engine? i am using it as i have taken about an inch (half litre approx) off the sump.
any help is appreciated

Don't use the takeoff which goes to the oil cooler as it is thermostaticaly controlled. Bypass system. So unless the oil is hot it won't run into the accusump. The purpose of the accusump is to store oil under pressure in the tank, then turn it on while cranking the engine to start, thus suppling oil to the bearings before the engine starts, and an emergency supply if the pump starts sucking air in a high G manouver.

I removed the blanking plug on the oil pump housing and used that. So the Accusump is directly feeding the outlet from the oil pump and should react to any pressure drop quite quickly.

The only draw back I can see is if you let the Accusump drain then the oil pump will refill the Accusump before the engine. I don't think this is any different to tapping the Accusump at the oil filter take off. So ideally close the Accusump valve before turning the engine off, then open the Accusump valve to pre-oil the engine, close the valve again and let the engine get up to idle pressure and finally open the Accusump valve again to re-fill it! What I tend to do is keep it closed and only use it on track

I've not had any problems when the Accusump has been left open all the time.

The electric valves have the advantage that they only re-fill the Accusump when a certain minimum pressure has been reached in the engine. One thing to note though is the cheaper electric valve re-fills the Accusump at a slow rate so may not be suitable for track use.

Anybody know anyone who's done a dry sump conversion on a 4AGE, or even where bits for such a conversion can be obtained?

i have cut about an inch off my sump which is approx half a litre, i have filled the engine just over the correct amount of as you would in a normal 4age sump. with my sump it has no extra capacity hence why i would like to use an accusump. whats the cheapest pipe i can use as the braided stuff is serious money!

seems bit of a headache trying to remember to turn on and off the accusump.
