I'l on the lookout for a replacement for my knocking blacktop engine and don't want to shorten the sump again.
Does anyone know any reason why a blacktop sump won't fit a silvertop?
Thanks
Stu
The mating flange on the bottom of the blocks is the same. Blacktop sump has the oil baffle/wiper/seperator (can't think of the correct term) plate cast into the ally section of the sump. The silvertop has a steel plate bolted to two and four main bearing caps. The caps on the silvertop are taller also. I know the blacktop sump will not just drop on the silvertop. I do not know if it can be fettled to fit as I haven't tried but I think it's a no!
Windage, that's the word I was groping for! I have a sump and bare-arsed silvertop in the garage. Will go and have a play.
Thanks
Rob, which bit of the cap bolts do you cut down?
Stu
Just measured up. The webs in the sump that align with the main caps and stiffen the windage tray will need shortening/grinding down quite a bit. This
confirms my recollection of the main caps being taller on the silvertop than the blacktop. Also may need some adjustment of the oil pickup but I would
amend my first doubts to 'probably do-able' with a fair bit of ally grinding.

Thanks guys - that Sounds OK then. I don't mind a bit of chopping and grinding to get it to fit.
Have you used an Escort water pump on your silvertops?
Thanks
Stu
Yes. 1800 escort pump.
Thanks
