is the rocket box and type 9 the same length?

well? are they?

I couldn't say 100% but I'm pretty sure the type 9 is longer. I seem to recall reading somewhere that when people put a type 9 in older cars Fords that have to move the rear mount back.

I'm 99% the Type 9 is longer...

Hi

The overall dimensions of the type 9 and the rocket ( i assume you mean the 4 speed sierra / 2.0 cortina box as rocket was only reference to a set of ford ratios. ) Are the same however the mounting on the type 9 is further back by a few inches. But the box will also have the same output spline so prop should swap over.

Cheers Matt

I've recently done the conversion and can confirm that they are almost the same length. The Type 9 is about 10mm longer so, providing your propshaft has say 25mm free play into the box you will be okay and will be able to use your existing prop. However the mounting on the Type 9 is a couple of inches (sorry I didn't measure it) further to the rear of the car. The gearstick comes out of the tunnel in the same place. The speedo drive is further back than on the Rocket and I had to use a right angle drive and new cable all supplied by Speedy Cables.

good new lads! thanks

well, sort of good news... i'm thinking of prop shafts. i could buy one from SHP, £180 plus vat plus posting. they're for the rocket (type E) box
though i hear of people paying about £150 (i assume inc vat, maybe plus post) for one from the likes of bailey morris, but i worry i'll measure something wrong. there is also the (slim) posibility of a 2nd hand one from a race truck

just bought a gearbox mount from SHP. cross memeber and bush and all the bolts came to nearly £50. now i'm worried that won't fit. though they know what gearbox i'm using, and there has been parts in the past they've said won't fit my particular set up, so who knows
