i have a set of twincarbs they have 40 stamped on them so i assume there twin 40s.that mutch ive figured out but they allso have solex stamped on them im trying to identify what they are???if they were webbers wouldnt it say so or are solex made by webbers??

Solex is a manufacturer, some Volvos (old) had solex carbs, I think they were also used in some renaults at one point amongst others, I have triple solex carbs
on a straight six volvo/penta boat engine 175hp very thirsty

yes thats them i belive,but unfortunately theres no filters with them just a manifold.if anyone knows of anyone who sells service kits or spares for these it would be mutch appreciated,or if anyone is knowlageble about them and could tell me what engine aplications they will fit.it looks like i might be better off selling them.

Thank heaven for that, when I read the subject of this thread I though for a minute that someone was going to build a car without knowing what a carb was...

I expect that day will come when the youth of today don't remember carbs and everything is either efi or electric or hydrogen fuel cell...

I'm actually disappointed at this thread now as I was looking forward to some of the responses to "carbs - what are they?"

They were fitted to some 70s afa alfettas according to my haynes manual.

Some of these weber copies actually use weber jets & emulsion tubes, the solex may be one, in which case you can bung 'em anywhere you'd put a weber & re-jet to suit as though it were a DCOE40. I try to remember to consult me old weber book tonight.

Weber bought Solex out (or the other way round) so it is vaguely possible that some parts are interchangable....
