Acetal Delrin

On another forum, it has been suggested than i upgrade my wishbone bushes by making them out of Acetal Delrin.
Has anyone done this before as i have never heard of the stuff and its too early to understand wikipedia

How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

Delrin is much harder than Polyuerathane (sp) so expect a little more feedback... not that you would notice really :/

Its way to hard and has no give. You may aswell use bronze or rod ends.

There is a firm near me that do good quality heavy duty poly bushes with outer tube ready machined to weld on and matching crush tube ready to press in. Price works out at a fiver a corner.

They use them on big hot rods so will be well up to your little straight six P:

Do a search on here for wisbech engineering.

I thought this was going to be one of those dodgy posts with nasty links to drug sites in it

You'll get delrin from any good plastics supplier, look on your local trading estates. They may even be able to turn them for you.

FWIW, Delrin is far more brittle than Polyurethane or Nylon, plain Nylon is generally a bad choice for bushes as it swells slightly in water, Nylatron, which is graphite filled Nylon, has good self lubricating properties and doesn't swell as much due to moisture, it's usually a bit cheaper than Delrin as well.

Polyurethane, is a good bush material, good resiliance, high tensile strength, so-so lubricity, excellent chemical resistance -- only problem is it is very variable in quality as it's sold as a resin, makers mix various quantities of each component to change colour, hardness, etc so quality and strength can vary greatly.
