What do we think of Lotus Excel's??
I've just been looking through Autotrader / Pistonheads Classifieds and Ebay.
Lotus Excel's look indecently cheap. Front engine (2.2 litre 16 valve 912 engine 180 horses), rear drive, 2+2 seating, plastic body.
What could possibly be / go wrong with them??
Cheers

From experience the only thing that WON'T go wrong with most lotus's is the bodywork rusting. Everything else is fair game for a
reliability problem.
However, they're still brilliant!
I'm selling my elise if that's of more interest....

I would like one. First things to do would be change the engine and re-wire it

If you think they are that crap, why are you driving a Lotus clone?

anyone who buys a car like that and expects reliability is deluded. same goes for tvrs. theyre fantastic cars, fair enough they might give you a bit
of gyp on cold mornings, but who cares?! theyre gorgeous and drive fantastically. they most certainly are not shite, want reliable? go buy a honda.
just not the (old) f1 car

It's definately a tick in every box but they have been reasonably priced for some time now so a lot of the gremlins have been sorted (Rover or
Renault engine, electrics rebuilt etc)
They have a huge following so you wouldn't be struggling on your own.
80's tastic all the way but not trouble free motoring (that's what Audi's are for)

As said above, might cause lots of issues but it will be worth it...

Actually I just went to pistonheads to see what you get for your money, and the location kind of jumped out on that one
