Motorbike engine/gearbox

Hi,

My understanding is that to get an age related regestration plate, your car must have 2 major components from the donor e.g. engine and gearbox.

I was wondering if this counts for a motorbike engine/gearbox (as they are sort of one unit)?

Thanks

Sam

My van has an Irish registration number and the man I bought it from wanted to transfer it to his bike but couldn't as the DVLA don't allow it. I don't know if they allow bike reg to be transferred to a car though. It might be worth finding out.

Edit:- found out you can. They wouldn't allow his as it was under 600cc.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Im pretty certain you can't transfer a bike reg to a car or visca versa, nor use the bike's age as a basis for an age related plate on a car, so regardless I don't think you'll be in luck.
However, if you are going for a brand new registration plate, the bike engine only counts as one item unlike a car engine/box, so you can put a used bike engine/gearbox in a car (your one used item) and as long as everything else is new, you'll get a new plate. You might need to draw up a "certificate of reconditioning" on the engine to satisfy a picky inspector but its nothing you can't rustle up at home
