Sh*t Day
Arrghhh!!
At some point today, between about 2.30 and 3.00pm some scrote keyed both tin tops outside the house! 
Twats!!!
So I thought I'd go out in the Indy for a shakedown. And it's shed a load of coolant for some reason! Not good considering I'm
supposed to be doing 1,000 miles round Scotland this weekend!
Trouble with the cooling system is that to test it means working on it, running it up to temp, then letting it cool down again. Which all takes
time!!
Ah well, back into the garage!

Mike, that's a real p*sser - they really ought to bring back flogging!!
If it helps my cooling problems came down to the pressure cap. Admittedly it's a bit of an odd one (ex-Volvo) with a couple of pressure valves
inside. Soaked it in some kettle descaler for an hour or so and it seems to have cured it.
Hope you get yours fixed.
That'll be the John O'Groats blat you are off on?

I understand your frustration, my engine used to do exactly the same thing.
I originally had it plumbed as per the bike using all the bike components and it was OK for ages then it started losing the water but appeared to be
running OK. So I got pissed off re/filling it and just kept using it to see what happened.
Eventually I thought I must have knackered the head gasket as it ended up with no coolant in the system. So I changed the engine and against my own
judgement altered the cooling system to incorporate a pressurised expansion bottle instead of the overflow catch tank as used on the bike.
No problems with new system but when I stripped my original engine there appears to be nothing wrong with it
I liked the simplicity of the original system but I think I'll make my new layout permanent as seems more reliable.

Hmm, I'm also on the look out for scrotes for the next few days. My Gypo early warning device has been activated (a small tub of scrap metal
tucked at the side of the garage) but doesn't appear that they've done owt with the garage.

Davie that was exactly what I discovered. Ran fine for a while (3 years!) then started running hot. Changed nearly every component in the cooling
system, ended up self diagnosing HGF, had it skimmed, and put it back together. And it still didn't work. So I put a new engine in. And that
still didn't cure it!
I was at Geoff's on Sunday and he suggested removing the thermostat. Which worked, got the temps under control and seemed to run fine.
The weird bit is, I have two stats, which both open fine in a pot of hot water, as per Haynes method of testing.
I think tonights problem might be due to a loose filler cap. Doh!! Was half a turn off tight when it had cooled down enough to touch.

agreed thats shite
So frustrating as you dont have the chance to see them doing it and rip their heads off.
skinny turds in shellsuits, Rockport boots and a Berghaus Merapeak jacket.
Ive given up with my car, was mint now covered in dings and scratches from my charming wanker neighbours.....I get pissed off with their drunken yob
son and bollick him, they scratch my car !!
Im off on one again.....

I live in between Studentville and somewhere worse!!
During the day, I'd go with your guess of turds in a shellsuit / Rockports.
At night, it's drunken students, from nice families.
Caught a pair of drunk students about a month ago. They'd kicked dozens of wing mirrors off and ripped loads of aerials off.
They were very "surprised" to see me and 6 coppers detain them  As they were "nice" lads, the cops let them off, on the
condition that they paid for all the damage. I think they coughed up nearly £1,200 for that night...... or Mummy & Daddy did.

Anything I can help with on the Indy? You can have my CBR thermo housing for the blat if you like - it aint goin anywhere!
Are you going down the k seal route if you cant sort it?

Bit the bullet this afternoon, bought a new stat from Kwak.
Tested in hot water next to the old ones. It opens about twice as far for any given temp. So although it worked (ish) seemingly not well enough.
Will wait until after tea and have a test blat!

My mum had one of the Plastic panels on her smart forfour keyed and the whole thing had to be replaced, intrestingly happened the week the paper
reported a major vandalism incident at the local volvo dealers.
We knew who'd done it but the police weren't intrested so me and my brother broke the bonnet cable on his dads car.
there must be a way to electrify your car so would be vandals get shocked, or you could get one of those South African do dads that make fire come out
from under your car.
