MEV TR1KE Has anyone bought one yet?

So i'm only 1 month into selling my car and feel withdrawal symptoms with regard to my vehicle. I bought a bike to get me through this year but feel next year I may look at buying one and creating my type of reverse trike. Just pricing up an R1 with V5, maybe a trackbike, Something to get it up and running and through its test. I quite fancy putting a V twin engine in though, and also its going to need a reverse of some sort.

I think in comparison to the MNR I built I should be able to put this together in maybe 3 months, maybe less depending on what I have on.

Has anyone bought one yet?

Any pics at all?

They now have a road legal demo so I may have to take a trip to Notts to test it out.

Cheers

Nick

No, but I wouldn't mind a go in one. I suspect that if I did, I'd be buying one soon after.

Not a big fan (but love it's seat design!)...

Just out of interest... MSVA doesn't concern itself with mudguards - would the rear hugger in the photo below satisfy MOT regs?

Similarly - would that placement of the reg plate and rear-lights be acceptable?

Cheers

They reckon to have a road legal demo now, passed MSVA

I suspect the licence plate is well below the legal line, and not sure about the Hugger, I can't see it being a real issue. If it was I would fit a wrap around one for MSVA and then take it off again.

How much is MSVA as apose to IVA?

Cheers

Nick

And the daft question of the year.

If you get one through MSVA, what would happen if you added another wheel if you do not change chassis?

But surely if you wanted 4 wheels you would buy a Type 7?

I love trikes, I love the look you get, even with my MNR I would not expect to get lots of stares from people, being on or in a trike is something much different.

But, if you built a 7 and you can mod it in a way that you can built it as a trike and then convert to 4 wheels you would end up paying a lot less instead of IVAing it

Hahahaha, Yeah I guess, well I think I will have a change of heart next year and maybe buy one of these pending a test drive in a couple of weeks. As long as I can fully mod it to my spec, I will finally be happy and hopefully end up with what I wanted originally, a trike indeed, loved my Boom Lowrider, but wanted a reverse one since selling that back in 2007

You couldn't add a wheel to that design without 'radically altering the chassis", so an IVA would be required.

That said... even if the chassis design was such that a fourth wheel could be added without modification, then I think the change to 4-wheels would be enough in itself to require an IVA.

I could be wrong... I frequently am!

I do like the look of those but cant help wondering what the traction will be like? I imagine it'd be faily rapid but not as quick as two driven wheels.

That said it'll still be quicker than my 1.6 pinto!!

Rich

The only thing that you will need to consider is to add the extra brackets for the suspension, differential and wishbones and probably find a way to have a bolt on cage to strengthen the differential area.

a trike can only be msva'd as a trike if the wheel plan is symetrical. This is noted on the V5, changeing the wheel plan to '2 axle' would be a major mod in the eyes of the dvla i reckon.

Is it just me or does £4k seem a lot for what's in the kit?

... just had a flick through the MSVA manual and it says that the rear lights on Trikes with one rear wheel may be placed 'anywhere on the rear half of the vehicle'.

What about using the solid axle from a quad bike??
These fit onto fairly standard looking swingarms.
Hey presto!! Four wheels, loads more traction and completely unpredictable handling!!

The donor bike is quicker than a 2 wheel drive car and it only has 1 wheel.

What about if you take a video and pictures showing the before and after the change showing that the chassis hasn't been moded.

Wouldn't matter... you've added a wheel, so the 'category' of the vehicle has changed and it will need the appropriate inspection.

so what if the chassis hasnt been modded. the V5 will not relate to the vehicle. 'tricycle' and '2 axle rigid body' are completely different things. Its too powerful to fall into a qudricycle loophole too.

Mmm, with in my case about 16 stone sat on top of it helping traction...

IMO it looks unfinished at the rear, like a lot of the mev stuff its the same but different to their other stuff. The cost of the kit almost outweighs any IVA saving(for what you get).

A way of involving the donor parts in the design more would make it look 100% better at the rear.
