Pair headlights

Mot looming not had no front lights since I modified them at cadwell last year so I better get some fitted I guess?

What's the MOT requirement ? If fitted they have to work but what if there are none ?

A motorbike can pass an MOT and be driven legally.but only during daylight hours with no lights, not too sure about a car though.

cant be that big a job to sort them, last thing you want is a restriction on when you can drive

From my reading that is only partially right:

Don't have to have lights, according to this page re Headlamp inspection: "This inspection does not apply to: Vehicles used only during the hours of daylight, which are not fitted with front or rear position lamps, etc". So, it doesn't call it a "daytime MOT", but does allow for vehicles that are only used in daytime. Presumably, if headlights are fitted, they must conform to regs but, if they aren't there and you tell them the car is only used during daylight, they can't fail you.

The MOT tester manual says "Headlamps are not required to be fitted to vehicles used only during the hours of daylight, which are fitted with neither front nor rear position lamps, etc. (See 1.1.A). " So to have no headlights, you can't have other lights? How very odd?

But presumably you must have working brake lights and as they're usually in the same cluster as the running lights that's going to be difficult to sort out

Rules for daytime means no lights front or back and no switches... my bike failed when I turned up with no lights aprt from a brake light and the indicator switch still on!
