track car on the road ?
Hi, im looking for some advice. I have a MK Indy track car i want to put on the road. I purchesed the car as a track car from the previous owner who
had built it up over a number of years from various parts . I have the car ready for the IVA and when inspected by the local DVLA he told me it would
be put on a Q plate because i only have the receipt of purchess. I have since heard that VOSA will want more receipts of the build and pictures of the
build , is this correct?

if you dont have much info/receipts for the car and cant prove where the parts cam from you will get a Q plate. that should not put you off though,as
there are some advantages to having a Q

I can't think of any? Infact only the disadvantage of being unable to change your plate to a personal one. But thats not a big deal for many
people anyway.

No emissions test at MOT for a Q plate for one?

You also get a local plate with a Q plate.

This is one of the reasons I suggeste that we as a forum uploaded picture of different stages of build sp people could use the pics to present to the
DVLA if needed

Yeah, that seems to be passed around this forum all the time. Sadly its totally untrue. Any vehicle that has been through the SVA or IVA has its
emissions tests recorded on the VOSA database. This is what the MOT test station looks up to perform the test. Unless the vehicle was registered
before 1998, this doesn't apply.

obviously not everyone on here can use new parts so the fact that you can hunt for cheap parts from different sources and still get registered (much
much cheaper) is a massive advantage for some.

Tiggy... Welcome to the forum (err.. Madhouse)
Please can you add your rough location to your profile, as it helps people a lot if they can offer help etc etc.
Have a read through the IVA / section and see what comments are made on peoples cars and then look at those areas on your car. It may help aviod a
failure. Get a copy of the IVA manual and have a read thru.

Post up a load of pictures of the problem areas and let the people on here pull it apart. Any job fixed before you get to the VOSA station is one less
fail point.
Dont worry about a fialure, as a lot of kits fail first time. At least it gives you a "to-do" list to be able to get a pass.
Mine failed twice (Mirros too low, Front indicators too far inboard, and front to back brake ballance - which was the worst thing to sort out, hence
the second failure)
The VOSA guys are very helpful, and know all the answers and dodges, so be nice to them, they are your friends and not the enemy! They will bend the
rules as far as they can. However they will NOT break them!
Use the search facility on here as most things have been done to death! Ask plenty of questions, as someone usually knows the answer, whether its car
related or not!.

I'd say that not making yourself look like an utter prat by having a private plate was an advantage?
