Dodgy Fuel Gauge

Right lads you have not let me down so far in the past and I need your help once more.......

Took the Indy out of the garage today to go for a run in the sun, when noticed that the fuel gauge was reading full, now I do know that was not possible, unless the fuel fairy had been in over night.

As I trundled along the road I noticed that needle was up and down spasmodically, didn't worry to much because I knew I had enough fuel for the length of the run I was about to complete.

As I went along the needle decided to stay well past the full mark, when I turn the engine off it goes back to the empty position and when I put the ignition back on it goes flying over past the full position.

Had no trouble in the past....... Any ideas????????

Please help..,..

Regards Greenie

Sounds like the wire from the gauge to the sender is touching/shorting to earth somewhere along the way.

Best second guess is a short. If I short my sender live to chassis, ther gauge goes to full.
