4AGE is a cracking little engine as long as you don't want to tune it much, costs
a bloody fortune if you do.
Apparently the head from an Avensis gives a bit more grunt.

I'd have to agree with going with a Zetec over the 4AGE as it is more powerful and easily tunable. It will also cost you more to go the 4AGE
route. However... the 4AGE is a very small engine and there may be some instances where it will fit that a Zetec doesn't without chopping
into the chassis. That is why I'm after one for my Midget project. Just a shame you're so far away.

I'd agree with going Zetec, the blacktop oil filter is neater and would cause you less headaches, but whichever way you go, good luck, and keep
us updated pictures are vital.
This is the sort of conversion I like, take a look in my archive for my zetec engined mgb, Retro Rides is a good site for ideas, but this is THE BEST
for practical help and freindly chat.

My eldest is just finishing the install of a Zetec in a 58Pop, and it's been a real challenge. The Zetec is not the easiest, a Duratec even
moreso, and the 4age will make plenty of power for the car.
The 4age is a smaller engine, so will probably fit well. Essentially a crossflow block with 4/5 valve head. The big issues will be remodelling the
tunnel and firewall to fit the top of the gearbox, and then the new gearbox mount/crossmember.
Are you changing the struts? Mk2 Cortina will drop straight in, and the bigger Capri/Mk2 Escort brakes will bolt up easily. And if you're
changing the fronts, you also be changing the diff to keep bolt patterns the same. If the budget allows, do the job once and properly, and get a
custom Atlas.
Cheers,
Nev.
