Sierra driveshaft boots

Just finished cleaning my LoBRO (bolt up) driveshafts ready to paint and found one of them slightly torn now its clean
Don`t want a fail for something you know about do I so..........
Any ideas whether the CV joint boot kits are a main dealer job or a motorfactor kit? and how much?
Also do they really pull apart easily as suggested in the manual once the clips are off?

Motor factor, although I found them a little tricky to get hold of. Got mine from Halfords, but you may be able to get them cheaper elsewhere. Total cost of £15.84 inc VAT for two inner and two outer boots. Not too bad.

Think i paid around a £5 each from ford. I completely stripped the shafts to put the boots on. I noticed the split type in maccess they were £7 +vat.

not done the job myself but i have read somewhere on here that its important to make sure you put the joint back together EXACTLY how it was with respect to the balls in the joint etc.

I have heard bad thigs about split boots, iirc someone failed an MOT (not on here) because they used split boots, very harsh but i wouldnt use them if i didnt really have to.

Thanks for the info all, do they come as kits with new clips or are they seperate?

I`ve heard that the split type are a cheap (get you out of the s**t at MOT time without taking the whole car to bits) fix on your daily drive. Not something to be used on the supercars we are building or aspiring to

Mine came with the metal clips that Ford originally fitted, which I was very please with until I found out that they were too big. they also come with a packet of grease.

You should be able to attach images without having to upload the file. Alternatively, if it's already on a server somewhere you can use bbcode to link to it.

One thing to add:
I've been told (not verified it myself yet) that you need to use Metal tie-wraps for SVA (and MOT) to secure the boots. If you need some then you can get them from Vehicle Wiring Products. They are stainless steel and are the ball bearing type which lock up automatically. There are two lengths listed.

Even if they don't need to be metal for SVA, they are cheap enough that you may as well use them.

Just to conclude,
I have them now, genuine Ford kits at £8.32 per joint, kit includes boot, large and small clip and grease
