GATSO trick. Sly dogs that they are.
I was flashed by a speed camera this morning, whilst I was driving toward it! It's definately a normal GATSO and targets traffic traveling west
on the A69. I was traveling east and over-taking someone on the chevrons between the lanes. I did only get one flash, but I don't understand.
Anyone have any clues?

Your safe
GATSO's can only flash going away from you and have to take 2 pictures to verify your speed with the road markings

that's what I thought, but there wasn't any on-coming traffic at all. You definately have to have two flashes, other wise they'd not
be able to prove your speed, but I definately got one.
There was also that guy in the news last month. The one who got snapped giving the camera the finger and got charged with dangerous driving for having
both hands off the wheel. He must have been driving toward it.

There are two common types of camera - the Gatso which photographs you from behind and has two rectangular holes in more or less opposite
(diagonally) corners and the Truvelo which photographs you from the front and has two round holes. Sorry to tell you but I think these only flash once
but cannot be certain of that.

That guy i'm sure was driving towards a mobile laser camera.
it has been known that faulty cameras have flashed at oncoming traffic, i know a guy who works for Cardiff council on traffic systems and he has been
called out to a few Gatso's to disconnect them due to them flashing for no reason
He is only involved in the commisioning and decomissioning of cameras not reparing them.
Mike
BTW apparently a tyre and some petrol helps them stop flashing (so i'm told)

Dont think a Truvelo flashes, after all it is illegal to blind an oncoming motorist
Sure they use Infrared instead?

I think your safe, Northumbria only use Gatso's that work when travelling away from them (IIRC).
I got flashed on two seperate occasions by facing cameras on the way back down from Scotland, never heard anything back from either. Second occasion
was a scary moment, driving at night after having a flash gun go off twenty yards in front of me.

I was saying the other day, as I was coming out of Chesterfield once a Golf Cabriolet overtook me in the 30 limit and the camera on the other side of
the road flashed him as he went towards it. I don't know if he was in the picture area but he ought to have been.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

The bikers used to do this a lot a few years back. That is ride very fast AT the gatso on the wrong side of the road. Apparently does set them off.
The thinking was to fill the gatsos up with loads of pics of front shots of anonymous bikers traveling at stupid speeds.

I've got TomTom Navigator with the CheckPoint speed camera overlays. It works quite well but it aint cheap.
You get the full satnav functionality aswell ofcourse

I was damn near blinded by one of these idiot things on my way to the airport in Geneva Swiz. As I was in a rental car and "on the way
out" I did'nt give it much thought. Early morning (dark) right in my eyes though !
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal labotomy...
