Haynes sports car book with MX5 ??

Hi i am sorry if this has already been asked/answered..

i have the haynes build a sports car book, and the ron champion book, obviously using old fords as the donors... i have had a look thorugh some of the threads, and have noticed the mx5 mentioned a lot, can you use the mx5 as the donor on the cars/books i have mentioned..

i dont mind fiddling a bit to get the parts to fit..

thats great, so basically, that is as the book with the changes to suit the mx5..

so if i got hold of an mx5 and built to that spec, how much of the car can be used ? ie running gear, gearbox, uprights etc..

i am looking at a different engine, so could i get an adapter plate for the belhousing ?

Thanks

There's also the Saturn/NTS version:

There's quite a few of us building them over on the Haynes forum.

Very do able. 115bhp from the Mark 1 MX5 1.6 engine. Nice light and low engine so you can use the donor fuel injection if you want (it will fit under the bonnet without any holes just by changing the air filter. I believe you dont even need to modify the sump. Parts easy to get, lots of tuning options including turbo. Rear uprights from the donor can be used. Lots of plus points against a Sierra donor. You will prob need to fit a cat due to the age of the donor and keep the lambda sensors but that isn't much of a minus. Its the option i was going to take until I bought my MK Indy.
