Cost of ally sheets
Can anyone give me an indication of what 8' x 4' sheets of ally are likely to cost me ?
I would also be keen on knowing what spec to ask for.
I am converting my trailer into a fully covered box and it's going away on monday to have the frame constructed. When I get it back, I'll
be paneling it out myself.
This will of course be a 'locost' project. The old guy who does the welding still charges on a casual sort of 1960s price structure. That
and the fact that I'm helping him out with some stuff as well

I recently bought a single sheet of 1.2mm thk ally - 1000mm x 2000mm. It cost £28 from Merseyside metals.
From memory, I think an 8' x 4' sheet would have been £38.

I priced two 8x4 16g the other day. £35+vat each, it gets cheaper if you buy 5+ but I don't think I need that many
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Sheets of ali
Give Aalco a ring in Cambuslang industrial estate, or even better pop in as you drive past them, they supply most of the ali sheet in this region to
the metal stockists.

That'll do Shug.
The trailer is being modded by an old boy in Blantyre. I can pick up the sheets on the way home with the freshly altered trailer.
All this because I need a dry home for my car and can't honestly commit to a garage build at this point in time.
Ach well, I'm sure there will always be some sort of market for a se7en sized covered trailer should I ever need to punt it.

Hi Coll
I seem to remember the CLs cost around 100 quid delivered. The visqueen was free from my brother as I had just finished converting his garage into a
bedroom and that had used in the process for a Damp Proof Membrane leaving the best part of a roll going spare.
It was extremely quick to do - 2 to 3 hours from when the timber arrived to it being finished.
It's far from perfect, but it's way better than sod all.

Like he said - wood. Although I always thought it meant Canadian Lumber Stock, but I can handle being wrong - again
Bear in mind that it isn't just normal off saw framing, it's been planed and 'tends' to be straighter than normal off saw
carcassing.
Tends to be strighter but no guarantees. If you get the chance, go and pick your own stuff rather than letting the drone in the merchant's drag
the stuff right off the top of the pile.

I thought this discussion was about an 10x4 foot sheet of aluminum .040 thick, or am I wrong?
You brits need to learn proper English so us Americans can understand you.
