Oil pump question...

Hopefully this should be an easy one for you good folks.

3.9 rover v8 - I'm just putting the timing cover back together and a thought struck me......should the crank driven oil pump cover have a gasket?

I can't remember one coming off it when I took it to bits...but that was many sleeps ago!

Can't say for sure, but my dizzy driven one has one on the pump and on the front cover. I'd assume you're missing one until proven otherwise.

Ok, I've trawled the Internet and also spoken to the lr4x4 guys and it seems that only the dizzy driven oil pumps have the cover plate gasket. Crank driven oil pumps don't have a gasket on their cover plate.

And when you type "rover v8 oil pump gasket" into eBay (or google images), only the dizzy type gaskets come up.

There is no gasket for the actual pump within the timing cover.
