MG Manual Wanted
I have promised to help my mate strip and rebuild the engine of his MG TC as it has comprehensively run a big end bearing, fresh con rod and reground
crank needed at the least. HOWEVER, he doesnt have a workshop manualand I dont want to tackle the job without one. There are manuals on ebay but only
for maintenance, not strip and rebuild of the engine. Does anyone (long shot I know) know of a manual available to rent, lend or copy or even just the
relevant engine part?

The MG XPAG 1250cc is dead simple engine only thing to watch is the cam timing marks are not conventional the marks on sprockets have to align
with pre-made marks on the chain. Like most engines of the period the pistons cannot be drawn upward through the cylinder bores but can only come
out after the engine is out the car and the crankshaft removed. The camshaft bearings are also a bit of an odd design. The camshaft centre
bearing is split white metal type held in by a single set screw from the outside of the block. In any event the camshaft can be left undisturbed
during most major overhauls.
Anything else just ask I know these engines pretty well to the last nut and bolt.
The best manual to look for is "The Tuning and Maintenance of MGs" by Phillip H Smith. It is very comprehensive.
I may have an alternative T type manual kicking about I'ill have a look

Don't follow too closely the engine featured is an Austin (later BMC/BL) A series engine the MG TC has an XPAG engine a pre-WW2 engine
developed from the early 1930s Morris 10 engine.
One thing I forgot to mention is all the threads on the XPAG are BSF or BSW and the hex sizes are Imperial (NB not inch AF) .
