Engines in a locost..
Im sure this has been covered before and ive probably asked it before.
What engines will fit in a standard 'book' chassis. I have a 1300 xflow but i wanna go bigger with something like a 2l zetec.
I been wanting to start building for ages and every time i want to buy my chassis i end up spending on summit else. But now its time.

2 zetec will fit....i think. The only worry i would have is the width of the engine, though people have put cossie engines, vauxhall xe engines etc
which are DOHC in standard locosts so you shouldnt have any trouble there really.

I have seen them with zetecs and xe's in. was wondering if the top rails need to be opened up a bit or something..

I dont think there's a problem with the width in the engine bay ,but it's very marginal for height, I have measured to replace the CVH in
my book chassis with a XE or Zetec , and they would have to hang very low , or you could raise the top rail of the chassis by 1"..
Although I have a Caterham nosecone which I believe is the lowest, maybe a Luego or MK nose cone would give more height on a book chassis.
Maybe we should measure a variety of nosecones at the highest point on the rear..

Thats the best idea i think mate. Ill probably build mine using the xflow then change it after the sva etc..
What boxes will go on the k series rover??

K series boxes....
The easiest choice a ford type 9 5 speed, you can either use the I4 of V6 as lng as you have the correct length bellhousign to match. Caterhams
bellhousing is for the V^ box and has the clutch release at the top on the drivers side, most the others are for the shorter I4 box and have the
clutch release low on the drivers side.
The k series is quite a tall and wide engine compared to alot.

If you build for a crossflow with the intention of swapping engines in the future I suggest you build the chassis at least 1" taller. I'm
using an MK nosecone and a 2.0l Zetec, even with an Escort sump fitted it still hangs about 2" below the lower chassis rails.
On the plus side there doesn't seem to be an issue with the width.

Luego locost nosecone is 205mm from top of chassis to top of nosecone - I just measured it this week when I was fitting the engine.
