proof of engine age (yes, another thread on this!)
Can I use a photocopy of an engine donors logbook as proof of engine age for SVA emissions test?

Easy way to find out - ring your local SVA centre! They're usually happy to answer stuff like this, as long as you're patient (if
they're busy then they may not reply immediately).

NS Dev,
I believe northy had a number for vauxhall to ring up and get them to send a letter to confirm engine age, not got this far myself...

Yep, got that, but they also charge £50 for that letter, and I have just found an old logbook, amongst a load of old junk, for one of the astras that
one of my 16v engines came from. The logbook isn't in my name (in fact I never even knew I had it, it was amongst a load of old mots and stuff!)
but still shows the date of registration, states that the car was new at first registration, and shows the engine number so I thought this might be ok
for evidence of year of manufacture.
Then again, one would reasonably think that the dates on the engine castings would also be acceptable, but it would seem not!

Change the details on the log book and send it back to DVLA. It will come back all new with the correct details on. Mr SVA will like this. My donor
had been off the road for 3 years and not had the change of keeper done. I just sent it off with all the new details (including, ironically, a change
of engine number). It was back in 5 days, so I declared the 'car' SORN.

I am just worried because the donor was crushed over two years ago. I don't want to get into trouble for getting the logbook for a car that
doesn't exist any more! Having said that, there is no evidence to prove when I scrapped it I suppose!!

What did you do about the box for the signature of the registered keeper? Also what about the date of change of keeper? Did you put the real date
(i.e. 3yrs previous) or a date a few days prior to sending the logbook off??

if the previous keeper isn't about, there is a form to request a new v5, you say the previous one was lost or you are the new owner and their
was no v5 with the car. i got a new one sent through pretty quick. i believe they write to the previous owner to check, but never had any problems
when i did it.

I've tried to contact the rpevious owner, but directory enquiries turned up nothing when I tried, think he's moved.
Rang the DVLA a while ago and confirmed that the name and address on the V5 I have is still registered as the keeper, so they would get no joy trying
to contact him!
I am worried what data of sale to put on, if I put the real date then I could be fined for not disclosing the details when I bought the car, if I put
a recent date I could be fined for giving false info!
I didn't send off the logbook when I got the car as it was really just a shell with an engine and I broke it up the day after I got it and it
was crushed within a few days. I had no plans to use it in a roadcar so didn't worry about paperwork! (and I didn't actually realise I
even had the logbook when I got the car!!)
I think I may be worrying too much but the law has a habit of catching the innocent and letting the real crims go!!!

What date of change of keeper did you put on Ned? The true one (which I cannot remember, other than it was at least 2 years ago!!) or a made up one???

Fortunately the previous keeper signed my document, i just forgot to send it off. 2 years later I sent it off and received a spanking new V5 in my
name.

To be honest i can't remember what date i put on. i bought the car off ebay and when i collected the guy couldn't find the v5, so i got a
form from the post office, sent it off within a week of getting the car and a new v5 arrived within about 10days if memory serves me correctly.
i'd just make up a date. i really don't think they're gonna worry about it, as long as you're not fined for it not being sorn
or anything..
