That was an interesting failure. I would have done exactly the same, assuming the longest measurements were correct then the other holes should have lined up. I was quite surprised when the middle ones didn't work out.

It's a quick fix (and just the thing that iterative 3D prototyping was intended for), but I like the fact that he kept it in the video.

Sorry I don't think that was a great video. Its not a how to, its 'content' for the sake of making something.
