R1 hoses
My R1 engine was delivered with a whole load of small black hoses losely connected to it. The problem was that most were disconnected at both ends.
These are not the coolant hoses. I suspect that they might be breather hoses. Does anyone have a drawing or description of where they should go?
Also, there is a pipe sticking out of the top of the gearbox. What is this for? (I must get a digital camera)

i downloaded the manuals from here:

to try and work out what the wiring and popes were. still confusing but might shed some light on it!

There are quite a few breather hoses on the R1 so a drawing is gonna be best without seeing pictures of which ones you are asking about.
The pipe sticking out the top of the gearbox is the crankcase breather. The pipe goes directly into the airbox, but some people choose to put a small
pipercross/K&N filter on it, or if you are hillclimbing etc then a pipe needs to be put from there into an oil catch tank (Minimum 1 or 2 litres I
think)
Cheers,
Oli

so that's where the oil catch tank goes to.
As for the breather pipes, all of them! There are 2 float chamber vents on the carbs but there are 4 hoses that are clipped to the engine near the
oild filter that are routed up towards the carbs. these 4 pipes are open at each end.

Someone with a carbed R1 must have routed these pipes somewhere?

Leave the float chamber vents where they are unless you're racing it, otherwise pipe them into a catch tank.
The four pipes clipped down near the oil filter are probably the float chamber drain pipes. These can either be reconnected to the float chamber
drains (and again, run into a catchtank if raced) or taken off - it's up to you!

the problem is that none of the vents are connected - they are all loose.

Leave them as-is then, unless you're racing it. They'll be fine...
If you are racing it, the float chamber vents (plastic t-pieces between the carbs) and float chamber drains (on the bottom of the float chambers)
should be piped into a catch tank.
