Check out Carl Austin's Mini, found a video of him at Avonpark. A series powered & runs sub 12sec 1/4 mile!
I dunno how to get a link up but I found it after 30secs of searching so I'm sure you can find it.

I recall from the 1970's (in Cars and Car Conversions magazine) seeing a Mk. 1 Mini with a transverse-mounted (in the front, at that, and it fit
inside the stock body shape!) Jaguar 4.2 litre V-12. Apparently reasonably quick, too...
