audi 2 litre

1994 engine, out of an standard audi 80, how much power would i be able to get out of this with a set of webers and a hot cam? and also the head skimed abit to increse compression abit

I cannot remember of the top of my head, but go to carfolio.com to see what other cars had the engine, and see their output with the relevant fuelling and compression ratios. I think the Corrado G60 used the same engine

Don't know if it was the same engine, but wasn't the g60 supercharged?

Is it not basically the same as the Porsche 924, or is that a different VAG related engine?

Is it the 8V or 16V engine. Not sure of audi's had one or the other or both as options as per golf Gt1.

I bel;ieve the G60 was the 16V and defo supercharged.

Yes, they also did a Supercharged G40 Polo.
IIRC the G came from the shape of the thing and it's supposed to be rebuilt every 40k miles

It's G as in G-Lader, the name of the supercharger, and 60 as in 60mm venturi.

Goodall - can you post a bit more detail about the engine you have. It is highly possible that it may also have been fitted to hot Golfs and therefore no doubt there will be a load of tuning options / details to be found easily.

its a 8v motor. the same as that found in the golf GTi, i think.

im looking to stay with naturally aspired even if the sound of a turbo dump valve is cool sounding

so its really just carbs and cams and maybe compression which is as stanard 10:1 so maybe just leave that stock

The VAG 8v engines are poop, chuck it in the bin and get yourself a 16v (which is still poop compared to some other manufacturers 16v engines, but waaaaay better than the 8v). It'll cost you a fairly hefty chunk of cash to get the 8v just up to the same power as a standard 16v. In fact, forget both and get a 1.8T if you really have to have a VAG engine, it's too much hassle/cost putting one on a rwd car to be bothering with an average engine. I was a big fan of the VW 16v engine (came from having a few Golf's and had put a bit of effort into my 16v lump), and originally wanted to keep it and put it in the Indy, but very quickly came to the conclusion that it just wasn't worth it, could pick up an XE and all the bits to fit it for the same price as just an adaptor plate for a VW

Oh, and if you can manage 40k between rebuilds on a g-lader you are a very very lucky person, going to the shops and back is a bit of a lottery in one of those

this would be for a mid engine car im thinking so an adapter wouldn't be needed if i were to use this engine.

well if its crap then might as a well use a xe and make up an adapter plate, its got about 200 as is

Why do you need an adapter, are you planning on fitting it transverse or longitudinal mid engined?

As someone else said, sell it and get one of the 1.8 20v lumps from an A3/4/later Golf. They're gaining a good reputation for reliability and tuneability and accoring to Parkers price guide even the n.a. model heaves out 125bhp.

If you're going to use the original gearbox, and there are great savings to be had in doing so sometimes, then as said, get the 1.8T. Damn good engine, and can be reliably tuned to about 250+ bhp. This is the same engine in the Leon Cupra R's, and that has 225 IIRC. A good remap can give a lot of extra on an otherwise stock engine too.

well i prefer longitudinal engine layouts so i would be planing on useing the audi box i have, which was once mated to a audi 5 but i dont really want to use that engine in a rs200 replica as it really would be strange to have a mock group b car that has the same engine as from its main competitor at the time. really the engine i should find is a cosworth 16v

as for electronics and computers in car, i dont like that, my philosophy is to keep it simple by using carbs and cams and other simpler techniques to get power, its not that im useless at electronics, im one of the top people in my technology class(its not the same as technolgy in england here its a lot more alot electronics and mechanical control) and i am a bit of a computer nerd (i have a server), i just dont like them, i understand how you can use a computer to help control and manage everything on a car but i like the idea of being solely in control of a car and not havening to have computer help me.

sorry went of on abit of a rant there, but in short i like it simple

Oh, if you're putting it in a middy with the audi box then forget what I said about being hassle to fit, I'd assumed it was going in a seven-ish thing. Still a poop engine though, think pinto but with less tuning options...
