any problems ?

OK I finally decided.. Bike engine it is !

What problems am I about to encounter ?

I have a very good source for aquiring bike bits as a friend repairs/ rebuilds/ race tunes blades and alike.

First question is, pre 95 or not. The 95 engines, although still fairly easy to get hold of (£500+) are starting to look ma bit scabby and have done some miles. The newer carb and fuel injected ones have more BHP and are more readily available( more pounds tho' Do I need a cat and all the gubbings to go with it ?

My friend has a blade exhaust from an inport with a cat fitted and lamba sensor but the engine was knacked. Can I get away with just using this exhaust?

Any advise / solutions to future problems will be very helpfull.

Oh by the way. I want to fit the lump into Fury. I think

Anything thats August '95 onwards will need a cat to pass SVA, but don't let that put you off as many have done it by hiring a cat for the day from the likes of Stuart Taylor and Kit Car Workshop etc.

96-99 blades arent a lot more powerful (<10bhp) than early engines, but a bit less peaky in power delivery. The first injected engines (2000) were not really any more powerful than the last of the carbed ones, its only when you get to the 954cc engine that power jumps up to around 150bhp. The problem with this engine is that its totally different to the earlier blades, so exhausts and engine cradles etc that fit earlier engines wont fit them, and they also cost a fair bit more to start with.

You may well be able to use that, but it depends on what else was on the imported engine that might have made it work, different ECU, air valves in the exhaust etc.

Also get yourself on the Yahoo BEC List which is a huge pool of BEC knowledge.

Also I'd say to seriously consider an R1 engine over a Blade, its what I would go for if I was building one now. You can pick them up for similar money to blades, yet they are about 25bhp more powerful and seemingly just as reliable in a BEC installation.

There are several Furies/Pheonixs with various flavour of bike engine in them on the BEC list, including a couple with blades and R1s in them.
