Great until the first hairpin.

Then the guy with the bike engine would gain about 3 seconds.

Then all that torque would fail to make its way onto the road when you try to catch up - unless you had a really tight LSD which probably would make it more than a little interesting.

Sounds like a recipe for disaster - go for it

P.S. A Rover V8 is all the V8 a LSIS ever needs and works quite well.

it was a pointless question really i already knew the answer, just wanted to marry up my 2 favourite things

7's and chevy v8s

as some may know im planning on building a monster FI'd chevy v8 during my secondement to th US and im struggling to decide what to put it in when i come back. I don't like cobras and the ultima is too much $..........

a pure dragstrip 7 would be cool though

In the middle of something would be best - for getting round corners and off the line.

At lyden hill in kent in 1993 I saw a Ultima with a small block do a lap in 47 seconds.
I also saw a 750mc race car with an 80 bhp reliant robin engine do the same in 45 seconds.
Says it all really.

In a light weight car, you want a low torque engine or you won't be able to put the power down. If you want low torque and high power then you want lots of revs. A low revving V8 is just wrong.

you also want close to 50/50 weight distribution. A BEC gives a slightly rear heavy seven; a CEC a slightly front heavy one. An iron block V8 is going to run wide in tight corners. I know that people like V8s but they're not suited to a light weight car.

I have one of only 2 Rv8 MNR's And love it near enough 50/50 weight split ( with me in )

But SBC I think would be too much.

But if you were looking at one of the LS variants 1 - 7 ) alloy. Yup it would drop in just fine

the higher the revs the lower the torque.....

an fast car always makes revs...

Torque is needed to pull, not for speed.
thats wy a truck has only 2500rpm and tons of torque...

and thats wy a bike hasn't torque but 11000rpm..

Tks

sow whats that car for? towing? or raceing?

i know an ls series engine would be better but you still have the torque issues,

i might just do it for the hell of it though

pretty much anything goes because we make the chassis to suit each application , as long as it will fit dimensionally then there is no problem at all

cheers

F1 cars are tail heavy and they have V8's dont they? I should imagine they also have a stonking great big torque output. Whats more I bet they will beat a Reliant Robin going round the track.

I guess its all down to how well they are designed and engineered which will be different to the usual 7esque way of doing it.

an F1 car

doesn't have much torque..

its 4.2 litres engines with 750BHP+ and 19.000Rpm calculate your self the torque...

anyway it can put its BHP on the tarmac because of its wings...

tks

poo torque

F1 engine have less torque than a modern diesel..

F1 engines weigh just under 100kg say(at the rear), but combined with tweakable down force of over 600kg front and back, the car is perfectly balanced at speed.

The Toyota F1 engine only makes 274 NM . . but that is probably from 10,000rpm to 19,000rpm

There's a chap on the Westfield forum who's put a supercharged 500bhp LS1 in a Westie, his name is Barry Ashcroft if you want a search on there.

Ok so what about a RX7 Engine? Smooth 265bhp. the engine is small compared to the other car engines. Engine, g/box and ECU can be had for a little less than a busa engine.
