It would be classed as a ringer, but unless the plod in question was very clued up on kitcars, it prob wouldnt be noticed.

I am aware of a few people that have used old dutton v5's to avoid the sva and i personally think its wrong to do, as the test proves the cars safty and build quality, its a route to be taken by the people who are scared of the sva, or bodge artists.

the dutton owners club report evry locost sold on ebay as a dutton to the police and dvla.
and they have reported loads from ebay over the last 2 or 3 years.

Personally I would ban Duttons from the road and crush every one.

Problem come when you sell it as a Locost, not a modified Dutton.
If you have a Dutton that has been progressively modified one part at a time to resemble a Locost is it a Locost or a Dutton or a Westfield replica ?

Dont slate the Duttons.

In their day they were very good, and give the kit car industry a big boost.
Things have moved on a bit, and they are now quite dated.

As for using them as a ringer V5, then thats out of order.

If you have radically modified your Dutton chassis (the body wont count as it has a chassis for 5 of the 8 points) into a locost (or near clone) then it should have a new SVA as its a radically altered vehicle. Thats the rules.

It also offers the less well off an alternative to a Robin Hood
