DIY DC TIG anyone?

Found this whilst surfing:

http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/my-diy-tig-welder-77730.html

Seems to be a lot of similar designs on the web, a very simple idea.

Very locost, wonder if anyone has had a go a building one?

Should be able to weld a good locost chassis with one.

Shame that it's only a DC TIG, would be good to have a simple DIY AC design for Ali, not sure this is possible?

Cheers

Dan

It's also scratch start by the looks of things. Not ideal, but maybe worth having a go if you can get the bits cheap/free.

True. No idea what's needed for an HF start, I expect its complicated. Anyone know how an HF start works?

Hardly worth the bother given the price of Chinese Tig/MMA kit on ebay, mine is still working fine though I am tempted to sell it and replace with an AC/DC TIG / Plasma cutter also very cheap !
