Phase 3 Focus Blacktop Zetec Sump & Starter

I've come across a problem with my CVH to Zetec conversion.

The CVH starter motor won't clear the 2 piece Focus sump without taking some of the flange off between the two parts of the sump.

Has anyone had this issue and found a solution?

I know I can swap the sump, but was hoping for to find a smaller [i.e. thinner] starter motor that will fit.

Cheers

Stu

Did that involve grinding the flange where the alloy and steel bits of the sump join?

I'm concerned that if I grind enough for the starter to fit, the sump will leak.

Mine did involve taking some material off the join. The joint at that point is about 15mm wide so it shouldn't start leaking...

That's good to hear - it looks as though it might need 5-10mm off to allow it to fit.

It fits now, after a bit more grinding.

Hope it won't leak!
