Bearing carrier bolt clearance on dedion?
Hello folks,
My GTS de dion, quite an early one, has no clearance for the bolts that hold the hub carriers to the axle, the bolts can't extend out the back
of the threaded flange as the big cylindrical part is in the way.
Other designs I've seen have cutouts in the big cylinder to allow the bolts to poke out the back. From what little engineering I understand I
think that is important.
People with more recent, finished GTS's: are your axles like mine?
Or shall I improve the clearance on mine?
The next question is how.. I'm thinking drill then dremel, any suggestions welcome.

I don't have a GTS or a DeDion, but I would think that you would want the bolts to go through a tiny bit more than that. It might be fine, but I
wouldn't be truly happy with it!

I just used shorter bolts, loctited in.
Been ok for the past 4000miles..

use studs and thread lock them in.
Then use nuts to hold it together.

So the next question would be.. where do you get some nice high tensile studs?
Can you get a length of "studding" and chop it down or is that Bad?

that's baaaaaaaaaaaad!
normal studding is carved from little more than dairylea.
i've found studs really hard to get hold of though, so usually resort to cutting the threaded section off a socket cap bolt.
12.9 studs.....just like that.

Mine is the same.
I just cut down the original bolts to make studs.
I thought making studs was better because you can be sure that they are using all the thread in the axle ends.

I wouldn't use B&Q cheddar studding, I was wondering if one could buy 8.8 studding or something.
Hadn't thought of chopping the heads off bolts, I like it.
