Dumb Car Insurance Question

Would you believe that I can't find my insurance certificate and can't remember who it's insured with.

Need to tax it, and not able to do it online. Is there a way of checking? I can show that it's insured on the the ASKMID site but I need to know who it was with so I can request a duplicate.

I'm such a fool!

At my last renewal the man from Adrian Flux said "Has it been modified? Oh, that's a stupid question, of course it has!" - he was chuckling as he said it...

Screw the insurance query; Ben, that is my favourite picture in the whole world. Sweet red-headed Li-Lo.

In all seriousness, I can't do it online because, and this gets better, I've realised that I don't have the V5 - I never received it when I bought the car.

In my defense, I'm very busy and my £400 Sierra has never been even remotely close to the top of my priority list - until the TAX & MOT ran out that is. Relying on lifts now - it's like being 16 again.

Hi Tim,

So you never got the V5 at all - was that from the previous owner or from the DVLA after he sent it off to them for the change of ownership?? If the former then give the DVLA a call. If the second then you can get a V5 from them but from memory there is possibly a small-ish payment to make and a form to fill in (V62??) - try google for the V62 form.

Edit: i'm bored so did it for you:-

Former case -
Linky to DVLA for lost V5 - but tell them if you never received it off them as you shouldnt have to pay
Later case - linky to DVLA with procedure for car bought without V5

If you cant trace the insurer from the payment transaction then i'd try and get the V5 asap to allow you to do it online. I take it you didnt get a tax renewal notice then??

Either way - whether you are the legal owner in the eyes of the DVLA or not then you are right to be getting lifts as its an offence to drive a vehicle without a valid RFL.

i'm pretty sure you can buy the road tax online without the insurace certificate - the dvla site will access some insurance database and if you are insudred, then you're ok to proceed.

(pretty sure same applies at post office - they access the db too but take the cert just in case.)

not having the V5 puts an end to that though.
