PC to TV advice

Nearly bought a new computer last night but then just as the guy was off finding one I noticed that it was missing the video connections that I needed as I want to connect it to the TV rather than a monitor. The TV being a fancy space age one is controlled by magnetic fields and ray guns so requires only a simple scart connector

What do I need the computer to have to connect it, is it a specific type of graphics or video card?

IIRC You need one of

TV Out

or

RGB out

or

S-Vidio out

You can then convert ( with cable / convertors to ) to a scart lead.

Regards

hmm but are they on a separate card? Not sure as the spec they give you in the shops means sod all TBH and I don't trust these sales guys

anyone just know of a decent desk top machine for around £350-400, I just hate looking for this kind of stuff, damn things all look the same

and what is a - Hybrid TV Tuner?

the TV out etc which has been mentioned is a port on the back of the graphics card. Search for graphics cards that have them on line and then go armed with your list of graphics cards, and ask to only see PC's with those cards inside.

If the graphics are onboard then you are far less likely to get tv out than on a stand alone graphics card.

simply from the graphics card point of view, check out this link to details on the card

http://support.packardbell.com/uk/item/index.php?i=vd058g&pi=platform_honeymoon_imedia

it seems to suggets that tv out is an option, the only thing to check when you see it that it actualy has the right ports on the ack as per teh picture in the link.

Dual CRTC / Simultaneous Dual Display (same or different surfaces)

Integrated 400 MHz Palette-DAC for analogue VGA monitors up to 2048x1536

if your tv is old to the point of only having a scart lead, why on earth would you want to run your pc to it?

well cos it has a rather huge screen and makes any monitor I have so far seen look ridiculously small.

Yeah, but what's the actual resolution of the huge screen on your TV......big is not necessarily better if the resolution isn't high enough eg something like 720x480 on a 32" screen will look pretty cr*p if you're using it as a computer monitor!

If its a normal CRT TV then it will be no good.

I have an XBOX set up to run on linux so i could get used to it without losing windows and i don't use it as the resolution on the tv is awful. the only way round is with an High res TV or monitor
