COP with EDIS ?
Just wondering - would a coil-on-plug set-up work with Edis ? Specifically , Volvo straight 6 and Edis/megasquirt ?
Just thinking out loud................
Its cuz I is blond , innit

i've got my EDIS6 now! but I'm on the isle of skye at the moment can't wait to get back and work on it!
I say work in it, I mean stare at the wires and scratch my head ^__^

Edis is wasted spark so you'd have to wire the COPs in pairs, but I'd have thought it should work.
There are two types of COP though, the first are simple 'coil only' ones, which would probably work with EDIS. The other type have the
ignitors built in and can be driven straight from Megasquirt without any EDIS or VB921 etc. Not sure whcih type the volvo in question uses!
Personally I think I'd just use a traditional coil pack if you want to run EDIS and only use COP if I were going for direct coil control from
the MS box.

I was looking on one of the many squirt sites and it said not.
Due to current draw it would only handle one coil per channell ?

The weather here has actually been pretty good, only really rained at night. I've seen a couple of open top cars on the island whizzing around

hi
Are you running ms 1 or ms2?
There are a few ways of going about c.o.p for a 6 cyl
First you could use the edis 6 available from trigger-wheels.com now that wont be coil on plug but it is the 6 cylinder version of edis be carefull
with that one as the sensor has to be mounted at a different point to the 4cyl
looking at the specs of the 4 cylinder i dont think you could convert it edis 8 uses two packs and a different driver the reason for this is as one
person rightly said the unit would not cope with the power requirements of running the coils in pairs
ok leaving edis there are two other ways to do c.o.p
you can either run msns mega squirt and spark extra which gives you a whole range of features as well as c.o.p
Theres a msns site and forum out there the card is about £50 on top of your ms1v3 unit
Second you can use a dedicated io module for running c.o.p from diyautotune.co.uk (the uk site not the usa one) while you are there they do a rather
good and very cheap 6 cyl coil pack
If you have your heart set on c.o.p then some bosch coils from the e36 or e46 bmw range do the job well for little cost
C.o.p is usually used for convieniance rather than anything else i dont think you will see a significant power gain unless we are talking full race
engine even then its only going to be 3-5 hp
Edis does have its folowers but its a little limited and now well out of date even on the good old blue oval cars
The option i would go for is a coil pack system running msns or the io board
Having said that i have just finished a monster bmw m10 turbo engine for a customer running cop which used megasquirt 1v3 with the msns board which
came up with some very good results and looked very neat if i could work out how to post a picture you would see what i mean
