V6 Duratec, in general a better bet than the Zetec?

Let's suppose a person has a choice between 2.5 V6 duratec and 2ltr Zetec, both from Mk2 Mondeos.

Let's also suppose that there are no issues relating to accommodating the engine or fitting it to a suitable transmission.

It would seem to me that the Duratec is the better bet, more powerful, smoother, all alloy, timing chain rather than belt, even has a system whereby it functions as a 12v below 3200rpm, and above that all 24 valves come into use.

Any comments?

Timing chains aren’t without issues, often the tensioners tend to fail and they are a lot more work to change. If buying a second hand engine I'd pay particular attention to the condition of the oil and if the inside is dark and stained I'd avoid it.

All these brave folk who want to fit unfeasibly powerful engines in lightweight cars

Ditch the IMRC 12valve system it feels like it's running on 2 cylinders.

The engine is nice and smooth, although i think it needs a lightened flywheel to make it spin up better. Think of it more as a rapid tourer than a four pot screamer.

St200 engine is worth holding out for.
