Don't give up. There must be a decent auto electrical place somewhere near you.
Sadly we're on the other side of the country - there is a brilliant guy here in Grimsby.
Even if you end up throwing a couple of hundred quid to someone to sort it, its cheaper than the IVA.

It's got to be something daft like a short somewhere. If it's only just happened on the way there then look for signs of recent chafing on
the wiring. Systematically work from one end of the car to the other. If that doesn't reveal anything then it will be a case of disconnecting
the battery, replacing the fuse and checking each circuit for shorts with a multimeter. Failing that, it could be the reg/rec I suppose.

Could you describe what it does?
Does it burn the fuse when you try to start the engine?
SOmeone might be able to quide you.

rotten luck - something must have chaffed the loom and shroted it big time.
should be possible to replace the bad part of the loom in a couple of weekends surelyu ... pity you are so far away ....
