Ok guys this was one of my old projects that unfortunate was unfinished
The engine was put on a engine dyno and made 262bhp but i wasn't happy with that so it was stripped down. I redid the head with more port work,
a custom angled inlet that was made before Jenvery made one, 8 injectors, DTA S60 pro ECU, Modified Titan dry sump and custom cams.
The new engine was never dyno'd by me as i found the shell of the car was rotten, I looked for a new shell but after looking high and low no
shell was up to the job. At the same time I had work related problems and went down to 20 hours a week but at the same time I started doing more hours
at A.L.D. Due to these problems the project was scrapped and lots of parts were sold on and money went into the bank.
The engine was sold to a lad in Germany and was told last year that it made 303bhp on a engine dyno ( still waiting for the dyno plot ) and the shell
went to the scrap yard.
A year went by and worked picked up in both jobs so with a spare £5k in the back i wanted a new project and got myself a 1999 Audi S3. This is when
problems started over again when the oil pump failed and distorted the engine. The engine was rebuild using a mix of VW/Audi parts, The block was
bored out and a stroker crank added taking the 1.8t to 2.1t and lots of other modifications to cope inc new forged pistons and rods, performance
valves and uprated springs, big intercooler, Haldex controller, Billet flywheel, 4 paddle unsprung clutch, Custom inlet manifold and bigger throttle
body. The small turbo couldn't cope with extra flow of the engine and the ported large port AEB head so a bigger turbo was needed so a GTX3076r
and a Kit from CTS overseas
The S3 has just got a base map on it with it only running 10psi its making 300bhp. As my S3 is a early one it comes with a narrowband ecu so a
wideband conversion will be done for a better and safer setup when all done we hope to see 550-600bhp

I've also done work for this lad
I did the head work and made his adjustable track control arms

Not bad for a Mk2 Fiesta with over 400bhp

Ok, perhaps I should have worded my post differently I have no axe to grind against ALD I just wanted to ask why everything was so shiny?...... I
used to build engines for a company that seriously reworked Landrover heads for off road rallying and they would never have sent out anything so
polished because it destroys flow......looks good when you get it but everything I've ever learned/been told says it's the wrong thing to
do.......couldn't ask the question as to why they do it so I started this topic and as I say probably worded it wrong. Sorry and all that! but
(and I am genuinely interested)........why is everything mirror polished? have you found it flows better?

Thats ok
Polishing the the exhaust ports and combustion chamber is ok just not good at all on the inlet ports as fuel doesn't atomize with a polished
port on the exhaust port the fuel has already burnt off and is on the way out
The polished surface is to stop carbon build up but with modern day fuels that very rarely happens now so its not done that often when i do heads now

Fair enough, a great answer actually! where I'm coming from is that any monkey with a die grinder and a flap wheel can 'port'
cylinder heads and and if it's all really shiny an awful lot of people on internet car forums will think it's the dogs b*llocks when
it's actually not...... best of luck with it all
See...... I wasn't discouraging new enterprise, I had a genuine concern - wasn't allowed to express it but in starting this topic
I've possibly generated more business for ALD so

If I ever get around to doing the 1.8 Zetec i would love to try going for ported head with higher cams etc, but alas! it will be a while.
Nice dig out Mr Beddows, Dave? How's the MX5 doing and ready for another PASA run out?
Adrian
Why do I have to make the tools to finish the job? More time then money.

Well done for getting out there and providing a service, you seem to have adopted a good approach and have responded to the criticism here with
integrity. All the best for the future.

Thank you all
I hope I can provide a good service to people on here
Some one asked about ported and polished head prices
Yes I can do 16v heads for £300 ina group buy and that inc p&p back to you
This deal needs 3 or more for it to work plus I need to know what head you want doing as I will have to look in my files for port sizes etc
I also have speced head details from other head tuners so please ask
When I'm not doing deals 16v heads are done for £400
I have done BMW heads, vag 20v turbo heads, ford cvh, zetec, cosworth, MG170, MX5's 1.6 & 1.8 heads and many more all with good reported
power increases

Head arrived today, many thanks Andrew, it looks good. Great price too.
Hopefully it'll be up and running in the next week. Donington track day on 14th looms large...

Quick update to an old thread...
Donington track day went well, engine was pulling well.
FINALLY got to the rolling road yesterday so I have some figures to show.
Peak power before the upgrade was 177 (crank)
with the ported head & larger chokes (up from 36 to 40) peak power is now 195
That's a gain of 18hp for £300 + gaskets, oil, chokes and a couple of jets to suit.
bargain!
