A 555 monostable generally cops a strop if the input pulse is longer than the output, so won't work as is in this application. You need to do a
bit of input filtering to convert the rising edge input (ignition live coming on) into a brief pulse.
Something along these lines. of course if you're not into electron herding this is probably as difficult as actually fixing the problem, and
it's naughty anyway etc etc...
