ZX9R Sprocket adapter - Resolved

Hopefully somebody can help me, I am trying to find a sprocket adapter to fit a ZX9R E engine, I have spoken to a couple of supplier this week (Mac#1 & MNR), both of who did not stock the adapter for the ZX9R, but asked for the diameter, depth and number of splines on the output shaft and both thought the ZX10 sprocket would fit. I have now received a ZX10 sprocket from Mac#1 (Who I must say offered excellent service and advice to the best of their knowledge) but it doesn't fit. The overall diameter depth and number of splines seems to be the same, but the width and depth of each spline seems differenet.
My question is, does anybody know if this should fit, am I just being stupid, is there a problem with the adapter supplied or is it just not compatible ?? I would like to obtain some opinions before I go back to Mac#1 so I know what to ask of them, thanks in advance...

the ZX9 from 98 to 2002 uses the same front sprocket as the ZX10r so C to E models.
The later F model is different.
So i think the advise you were given is correct for an E model engine

Thanks for the advice bigrich, well I have a ZX9R E and the ZX10 adapter supplied by Mac#1 did not seem to fit, that said, I did not spend long looking at it, maybe there is a fault with the adapter supplied ??

the first sprocket i received from mnr was for a zx10(marked on it)and it did not
fit as it was for 12 splines shaft, sent it back 2 weeks ago then receivd one for 13 splines and fits ok although its away getting 1.5mm milled off the back so i can get the locking washer to catch on the splines of the output shaft.

Thanks everyone for your help, I have now solved the problem, looks like a tiny flaw in the manufacture, there was a small lip left on the back edge of the splines, the sprocket would fit on backwards, but not the correct way !! A quick 2 minutes with a file, and it fits perfectly. So to conclude, for anyone else looking for a ZX9R sprocket adapter, the 13 spline ZX10 adapter from Mac#1 fits fine, and very good service from them as well.
