MS Help

i have been trying to get the car running this morning but its being a right b***h, its not firing! i've had the plugs out and they are black as the ace of spades, so the car is obviously running rich, and i have plenty of sparks so why isn't it firing? is it possible that there is too much fuel going in and flooding it? i have read through the manual and it says that it could possibly be the cranking pulse width, which is about 14ms.

any ideas?

Hiya,

Mine started first time, but I think that was maybe more luck than judgement!

First off, don't forget the enrichment bits in there - they'll add to the fuel going in. If they're set to enich as it's jsut started or warming up, they'll be skewing the VE.

Then look a the VE table - I used the calculator for the pulse widths, can't remember off the top of my head what it came out with - 14 sounds about right tho. Just by fiddling about, I managed to lean the fuel off by a $h1tload to get a nice idle - I think I got it down to about 25% (the table started off at 100% I think), so lean it off.

I take it you've read the megatune manual? It's really handy for getting the right bits in the right order..

You could haev my map, but I've only played with it for about 10 minutes so far! From your other question, I've got a 285 cam, big valves and GSXR TBs on a 2 litre Pinto, and cranking I'm on about 14 degrees advance, and going up as it moves up the rev range, but 10 deg should be good enough to at least get it started.

Finally, are you sure you're getting the sparks at the right time, haven't got the leads swapped or anything like that?

Cheers

vince

I will post my base fuel map up later. Got me running straight away. But you will need to add your spark info back in as its fuel only.

Does it start then run for a few secs? If so its not the cranking PW it will be the after start enrichments. If it runs for more than 20secs or so then dies it will be your VE table.

You should be looking at around 12 deg at idle for yourset up too Alex. I also assume you are running Alpha-N? If so make sure you have calibrated your TPS and the values in the spark and fuel tables relate to that.

Cheers,
David

Post up some more info Omega.
i.e.
edis or wasted spark on board ign drivers.
post your msq as well
As already said try swapping over the 2 coil wires ( if it's wasted spark) and see if it fires you could be 180 degrees out on the spark timing.

If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.
