BMW labour relations

BMW pulled the plug on weekend shift workers building that Mini thing (ugh !) -- Much as I dislike the vehicle (oversized in your face bad taste on wheels) it was really not nice the way they did it. Even at the height of the Stokes-red Robbo era BL would never have handled it so cruely.

Funny thing wass all the workers that were interviewed by the media weren't born in the UK but UK but other parts of the EU..

TBH the only reason to have "agency staff" is to have the ability to raise and lower your workforce at will. The core workforce will (should) be permanent.

OTOH some accounting and business practices are a bit suspect nowadays...

Yeah, but some of the folk had been there four years!

Any company with a contractual workforce would be obliged to offer the UK's pitiful statutory minimum redundancy package after TWO years, and give notice, after consultation.

Think we may see alot more of this going on as the year progresses.Uk redundancy aint worth a toss, compared to say Germany.Suppose if you build cars for a living where else can they go,that market is grim top to bottom
