Fixing front cycle wings?
Hello all
What have you guy's used to attatch the front cycle wings to the brackets?
In the passed i have always drilled and screwed them on,i have been told to Sikaflex them on but i am concerned due to the vibration etc they will end
up blowing off over my head!!!
I have already had to front drivers side brackets break on to cars and i am concerned Sikaflex would be strong and durable enough

i stuck mine on with glue and the first pop hole i went over it flew off and shattered in the middle of the road after nearly hitting my passenger
straight in the face. now i've bolted my new ones on with m5 hex head bolts and nylocs

Sikaflexed mine, then both came off so got bolted on with M8 dome headed bolts.

sikaflex and 4 off M6 stainless cap heads per side, no issues in 3k miles even after going through a hedge

Damn.....I just made my 10mm round bar brackets on Monday, back from the powder coaters Tuesday and fitted them tonight.
I had planned to fit my carbon mod wings on with tigerseal, but seeing this thread has given me serious doubts!
What about glueing them and using some sort of mesh under the round bar and pushed into the glue?

No i am using some MK front wing stays and wings.
The MNR round tube ones are no good.
Mine had the MNR full cycle wings on and they snapted at the weld first of all on the drivers side and again on the passanger side,rewelded both but
seamed very weak to me.
I have bought the MK round and flat bar were the wings sit and they seam alot stronger even after a bit of fettling here and there to get the right
fittment.
The guy's at MK said the only Stikaflex theres on without problem.

I stuck mine on with a resilient epoxy (own-brand B&Q!) , and then fibreglassed over the lot.

bolted mine with m5 phillips head bolts so there a smoother dome shape than a hex bolt with penny washers to spread the load screwed into the bar with
a rivnut. Seems very sturdy but no miles under its belt yet.

Those guys are mostly right!
Just make sure you have a very well "keyed" area to bond too on both the stay and the inside of the arch.
When they are bonded on, take the wheels off and "stitch" across the stay back and forward. So it would go arch/stay/arch in W patterns
from the underside...

Fitted mine with Evo Serious Stuff, and despite the wing stay breaking the guard never seperated from it, (got run over and smashed to bits),
but the adhesive never budged. Recomend it, great stuff. Cheers Ray

the wings for SVA I had silkaflexed hem on (actually grey stonger than welding stuff from B&Q) and then covered over with fibre glass. This was
to 4 mm steel bar, B&Q.
when I came to sell the wing,s, to reduce wieght I rmeoved the bar - bloody hell was it held on tightlky - the bar itself was benting - this is 20 mm
wide, 4 mm thick!!! rather than letting go. I had to undercut the grey stuff with a dremel!!

PU adhesive will be fine provided you prep and key the areas to be bonded. We probably went over the top by drilling holes in the wing stays, putting
a countersink bit in to chamfer the underside of the holes, before rubbing down with coarse sandpaper and cleaning with meths before applying the
PU.
Wings never came off though, even when wrapped around a lampost in the first Indy.
We now have MNR wings with modified MK wingstays and have fixed the cycle wings as we did previously.

Just ordered a sheet of A4 fine stainless mesh from ebay.
The plan is to glue the cycle wings on first, then once set, put 1" strips over the brackets and onto the inside of the wing with more
tigerseal.
