Advise need for using MX5 uprights
I have finally committed to using MX5 uprights front and rear on my semi-scratch build bec-midi, now some questions:
Rear seems quite easy to address, using poly bushes on the upright and spherical joints or poly-bushes at the chassis end of the rear wish bones, for
simplicity, on this my first build, I will keeping standard MX5 track width and using the mx5 diff converted to chain drive and standard width mx5
drive shafts.
I’m a little more confused at the front, for the top joint some seem to have modified the tapered hole and used the transit drag link, whilst I think
I have also read that there is a Mazda or BMW part that fits without these mod’s, does anyone have the proper part number/ id for these? For the
bottom joint most seem to use the MX5 part, this looks a little clucky/heavy and requires the bottom wishbone to be completely re-designed to
accommodate it, firstly is it possible to use the maxi-joint by mod’ing the taper as for using the transit top joint? Alternatively is there an off
the shelf joint that works? Alternatively could I have the taper reamed out to a parallel sided hole and use a spherical joint located by a HT bolt
with a machined spacer between this and the upright?
As ever any help/advise pictures of other peoples solutions will be much appreciated

check out my build archive linky last few pics
I used a Moog part for the top link but can't remember the part number. I bought them from Kinetic vehicles in the states, they fit absolutely
perfectly. Also check out my locostbuilders photo archive for wishbones
I used the mazda bottom ball joint, and redesigned the wishbones. I needed to make non standard wishbones any way so it made no difference.
MNR also use the bottom mazda balljoint FWIW
Check out the yahoo locost north america list they use mx5's miata a lot more than we do and will know the part number straight off.
Any questions please ask

Kind of what I was thinking but wonder why they don't do the same for the bottom joint?

The design breif of the MX5 MNR was to use 'as much of the donner car as possible' to reduce build costs where possibe. so we retained the
standard bottom mount and pin was reqired at the top to ensure that the hight of the upright mirrored the other MNR units ( so wishbown monunting
point remain the same.
Will try and post up picturs tonight if I get chance.
