Airbox..... R1

Contemplating an airbox instead if the TTS sausage air filter.

So, anyone got an airbox for a Yamaha R1 (2003)?

Initially just to trial, so i can see if it fits.

Are there any differences between years, i.e a 2005 airbox fit a 2003 model? Seen a few on eBay.

are you talking about using one of the airboxes that are used on the production bikes? have you seen the size of them!

you will almost cetainly have to cut your bonnet with a great big hole. i picked up a 2003 r1 box off the bay for about £12 and ended up chopping it up to get the inlet spacing for my pipercross filter backplate.

i have been toying with the idea of using an aftermarket airbox for a while and i still can't decide, you have to remember that the design of the airbox is important and contributes to the success of consistant air flow into the inlets, if you get the shape of the aorbox wrong you can loose horsepower!

I'm going to do a cut n shut on one so I don't have to cut a hole in my bonnet. Yes it will change the airbox a bit but it will help with the noise and I'm going to try and get some kind of ram air effect via 2x 60mm bellmouths at the front of the car (where the indicators would go if they weren't so low).

Just need to find somewhere I can get a small sheet of black ABS or similar from. Couldn't find any at Stoneleigh

Ive got an airbox and new filter which should be good for 99-03 i believe, and if you turn it upside down you will have to cut a hole in the bonnet but is cheaper than a complete rejet, and when i did mine it worked a treat.

Not sure how much to post/send it but ill take £20 + postage if anyones interested, bearing in mind this does include a brand new filter.

Mine turned out looking like this.
