Is this the oil level check window?
Hello all, just wondering if the picture below shows the oil level check window?
If so, why is it black, and if not, where the hell is it!

could appear black if it is over full of oil or engine is leant in such a posistion that the oil covers the window.

Should have said, it is a 99 R1 engine, and that is below the gearbox cover.....

The picture almost looks like a gromet but if its anything like mine (2002) its below the clutch basket at the front of the engine when mounted in a
kit car with engine number below. When its running it should go down to about half - does it? usually black from carbon build up - most oil changes
from pinky red(bike) to black after some good mileage ao it could indicate a change if mileage is unknown or serviced more than a year ago.

OK then, looks like I will have to give it an oil change nest weekend then . Hopefully I will be able to see the oil level then.
